James’ Story

We are all shaped by our childhood. My grandmother preached to me that time goes by no matter what you do, so you might as well do something productive. I have a relentless drive to make things better. I found I can do this through the law, where I have discovered kindred spirits.

My clients don’t come to me looking for money. They come looking for answers. If a medical professional was negligent, they want to know what happened and hold them accountable. Also, they are driven by a desire to make things better so others don’t suffer the way they did.

One of the most inspiring speeches that reflects my attitude and my clients’ attitude is “The Man in the Arena” by Theodore Roosevelt.

I started my path to the law in college. I worked my way through Bowling Green State University, where I met the love of my life. She is loving, supportive and has been a steadying force throughout our 30+ years together. She makes me a better person.

I worked my way through night law school at the University of Akron, graduating in 1993. A firm in Cleveland was looking for a trial lawyer with five years of experience. I earned trial experience working for the City of Akron during law school and reached the American Trial Lawyers competition’s national finals. My boss convinced the firm to interview me, and I got the job. A man entrusted his medical negligence case to me, and in my second year as a lawyer, an Akron Jury awarded the man $1 million, and a dangerous doctor lost his privileges at a local hospital. We made things better. I was hooked.

I landed a job at a bigger, more prestigious medical malpractice law firm in Cleveland. This allowed me to gain an immense amount of courtroom experience. I worked tirelessly for the next several years, trying a half dozen cases a year, and learned all that I could about medical negligence litigation.

The next opportunity presented from a firm that represented injured people, advertised state wide, but did no medical negligence litigation. I helped put together a team of people and thanks to the courage of clients and juries throughout the state, numerous record setting settlements and verdicts followed. Jurors realize that it takes significant money to make a significant impact on how health care is delivered. At last count, I have had the opportunity to be in 55 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Next, I helped put together a team of people and, thanks to the courage of clients and juries throughout the state, we set numerous records for settlements and verdicts. Jurors realized that it took significant money to make a real impact on how healthcare is delivered.

Today, Casey Injury Law, the firm I own and operate, is the pinnacle of a career that has resulted in nearly a half-billion dollars in settlements and verdicts for personal injury victims.

This site is a celebration of the courageous people who fought for themselves and their loved ones and how they have made a difference. Together, we have been able to help make things better, not just for the clients but for all of us, in how healthcare is delivered.

Thank you to all of the people who have trusted me to help them navigate and try their personal injury and medical malpractice cases. To others who want to find out what happened and why, who want to hold the responsible parties accountable and need to make things better, call us. We want the same thing.

I look forward to continuing to help make things better, one case at a time.
